Purpose
SlangCheck explains informal language in clear, neutral wording. The goal is to help readers understand meaning, context, audience, region and potential safety concerns without promoting harassment or presenting slang as universally accepted.
Definitions
Entries should describe observed usage rather than invent a meaning. Definitions are rewritten in original language for clarity. Multiple meanings are separated when context can materially change the interpretation.
Examples
Example sentences are written to demonstrate usage. They should avoid identifying private people, encouraging harmful conduct or unnecessarily repeating offensive language.
Safety labels
Labels such as Generally safe, Use with care, Adult context and Explicit language describe likely content concerns. They are guidance rather than guarantees because tone and surrounding conversation can change how a word is received.
Popularity and trends
Popularity labels and regional trend scores are editorial snapshots. They are not represented as real-time search-volume statistics. Where evidence is uncertain, wording should remain cautious.
Corrections and updates
Language changes quickly. Entries may be revised when clearer evidence, a new meaning or a regional difference is identified. Visitors can report concerns through the contact page or suggest missing words for review.
Advertising independence
Advertising does not determine which words are included, how they are defined or what safety label they receive. Sponsored material, when present, is visually separate from dictionary content.
